How to use blue paint in the home

Blue naturally reflects both the sky and the sea - it can be uplifting, relaxing, meditative or moody, depending on the shade you choose. There are lots of different ways to use blue paint throughout the home - our interior design experts share their tips below...

How to use blue paint in the bedroom

Paler blue paints like Cabin by the Beach, Ocean Breeze and Crystal Waters are serene and refreshing, perfect for bedrooms, thanks to the clean and relaxing ambience they create.

Use all over or on a contrast wall with lighter beiges and creams for a look of the Hamptons, bringing classic beach-chic to your home.

How to use deep blues in the hallway

Hallways look fantastic with deeper, darker blues, especially ones with a hint of green. Colour drenching is perfect to make the space look bigger – it’s the art of using the same colour across your walls, doors, radiators and skirting boards: the walls look higher and the space looks longer.

A dark blue like Lapping Lake or Midnight Hue is perfect for this effect, the rich tones adding depth to your space, contrasting well against your floors and banisters and creating a genuinely inviting, welcoming effect.

How to use bright blues in children’s bedrooms

Blue can really pop with optimism, which makes it perfect for the younger person’s bedroom. Babbling Brook and Freshwater Lagoon are both teal blues which create fantastic feature walls – use alongside white for a fresh and vibrant feel.

Alternatively, a more violet blue like Last Train Home provides a traditional backdrop which can work wonderfully with cream for a warm, almost regal finish.
Of course, the way you use blue in your home depends entirely on your own taste and room uses – these are purely our suggestions. The home is your sanctuary and a reflection of you, so choose the blue that works for you!
