Get your home ready for Christmas

It’s come round quickly, but the decorations are up in the shops and it is time to start planning. Christmas is coming!

Before getting the decorations out, it’s worth having a look around to see how your home is going to feel this festive period. A quick refresh prior to putting up the tree is a great idea, so here are our top tasks over the next few weeks:

Firm up your frontage

Before you hang up your lovely festive wreath, take a look at the front door. Is it tired? A quick lick of paint now will ensure it is bright and cheerful throughout the winter months.

If the paint is in good nick, it probably still needs a little love. Give the whole thing a thorough clean with warm soapy water and ensure your door furniture is clean and shiny.

Deck the guest room

This is the time of year that we are all most likely to welcome overnight guests. Does the room need a refresh? You have time to decorate this space in time for Christmas – we have noticed a massive uplift in sales of our green paints and green is a great colour for bedrooms as well as feeling quite festive. Little touches will make people feel welcome: a tray of toiletries, flowers, bespoke towels and quality bedding. Clean all window blinds and skirting boards.

Help your hallway

This high traffic area has no doubt seen a lot of action over the year – and will have the marks to prove it. Grab a bucket of soapy water and clean down the paintwork with a microfibre cloth before looking at your banister. Christmas garlands up the banister look brilliant but play havoc with your paint. Consider just wrapping lights around it this year, to prevent scratching the surface – it looks just as good!

Feature wall

We all think of fireplaces at Christmas but as lots of modern homes don’t have them, why not create a feature wall around around a tree. Use a pencil and masking tape to draw out an arc or square on the wall and fill it with contrasting paint – it looks great and can serve as an all year-round feature, framing a television or reading corner.

Light some candles!

Finally, get some candles. We love a good festive candle – the home is filled with the smell of nutmeg, cinnamon and spice. Placing one in the hallway and one in the living room will be enough – they will make your home look warm and inviting and ensure your communal rooms smell fabulous.
