World Ocean Day 2022
Our Colour Of The Month this June is Reggae Blue Paint - a bold, bright blue which customers tell us reminds them of the sea.
We are all about nature and protecting the environment as much as possible. In fact, today is World Ocean Day 2022, a global event which aims to unite us in restoring and protecting the blue planet - so it seems a fitting time to talk about it.
Over 140 countries work together on World Ocean Day (8th June 2022); there is a global network of youth and organisational leaders who create promotional resources and suggest actions for people to undertake to get involved.
The day was launched in 2003, with 23 events in 15 countries. Museums, zoos, youth-focused organisations all came together and coordinated a series of awareness raising events and activities – and it has grown year on year.
In 2020, the social media campaign around the event reached 454 million people in one month. Last year, that leapt to 650 million. There were 1,000 online and physical events around the world and this year it is hoped there will be even more.
The mission is simple - to reduce plastic waste for a healthier ocean and a more stable climate. We need to protect at least 30% of our planet’s lands, waters, and ocean need by 2030.
This is a cause very close to our hearts. When we first created Zhoosh, our mission was to produce mindful, relaxing paints that would be kind to the environment. This is why all our products are low VOC, we provide recycled and recyclable packaging, and we keep our carbon footprint as low as possible by selling direct and creating everything here in the UK.
The World Ocean Day website has lots of ideas on how you can get involved, from hosting events to raising awareness on social media, or taking part in the 2022 Ocean Smackdown!
One of the quickest ways to support the fantastic initiative is to send a letter to your country’s leaders about the importance of protecting the oceans. You can sign the letter here.
World Ocean Day comes just three days after World Environment Day, which also calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet. More information on the wide range of supporting initiatives can be found here.
Take action this June – now and for the future.
